‘It’s tough’ – Lawson shares first message after Red Bull seat swap with emotional social media post

Liam Lawson has shared an initial reaction to the news that he will be replaced at Red Bull from the Japanese Grand Prix in an emotional post on social media.
Lawson stepped up to the senior Red Bull team from sister outfit Racing Bulls for 2025, taking Sergio Perez’s place as Max Verstappen’s team mate.

However, just two races into that journey, the 23-year-old New Zealander has been dropped – his results in Australia and China falling below Red Bull’s expectations.
Lawson suffered a Q1 exit and race-ending crash at the season opener, before qualifying last for both the Sprint and Grand Prix in the second round.
Red Bull opted to take swift action amid his struggles and, from next week’s race at Suzuka, Lawson’s spot will be taken by Yuki Tsunoda.
Several hours after Red Bull’s driver announcement was made, Lawson took to social media with a brief message for his followers.
“Being a [Red Bull Racing] driver has been my dream since I was a kid, it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life,” he wrote, alongside photos from his school days.

“It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support, it means the world.
“Thank you [Racing Bulls] for the warm welcome, I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places [in Japan].”
Lawson contested 11 races with Racing Bulls (formerly RB and AlphaTauri) before his Red Bull promotion – and he will team up with rookie Isack Hadjar on his return to the squad.
